Anil Kumble is Team India’s head coach

The BCCI has appointed Anil Kumble as the head coach of Team India for one year. This was announced by BCCI president Anurag Thakur after the Board’s working committee meeting held in Dharamsala.

“Kumble will be now transforming himself from a great cricketer to coach, and that’s why he has been appointed for an year as of now,” said Mr. Thakur.

When asked the reason for choosing an Indian, when foreigners were also in fray for the coveted job, Mr. Thakur said: “It is not about an Indian or a foreign coach. It’s about the best coach for India.”

“It’s a great honour to be back in Indian dressing room in a different role,” said Anil Kumble.

Earlier, the cricket body constituted a three-member cricket advisory committee, comprising Sachin Tendulkar, Sourav Ganguly and VVS Laxman, who took interviews for the coveted job in Kolkata.

Former captain Anil Kumble along with ex-India cricketers Pravin Amre and Lalchand Rajput and former India team director Ravi Shastri were in the fray.

The BCCI, after putting out an advertisement on its website, had received 57 applications from both India and abroad and the list was trimmed to 21
