BCCI calls for Special General Meeting to elect new President
Goa Cricket Association (GCA) general Secretary, Vinod Phadke, said the SGM will be held on May 22nd with the only listed agenda being the election of a new president. “Yes, we have the SGM on May 22 in Mumbai. The only agenda is the election of the president,” Phadke told PTI.
Manohar quit his position barely seven months after being elected as the President of BCCI. He was subsequently elected unopposed as the independent Chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), a post he will hold for a period of two years.
As per BCCI rules, a SGM has to be convened within a spin of 15 days and members need to be apprised of the situation. It is the prerogative of the board’s General Secretary (in this case, Anurag Thakur), to call for such a meeting. According to various sources, Thakur is heavily tipped to succeed Manohar as BCCI’s new President. Indian Premier League (IPL) Chairman, Rajeev Shukla and Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) president, Ajay Shirke, are also said to be in contention.
