CBI registers disproportionate assets case against A. Raja

The Central Bureau of Investigation registered a disproportionate assets case against former Telecom Minister A. Raja, his wife, brother and 14 others.

The former Union Minister has been accused of acquiring disproportionate assets worth Rs.27.9 crore, through his relatives and close associates, during 1999-2010.

Among those named as accused are Mr. Raja’s wife Parameswari, brother Parmesh Kumar, close associate C. Krishnamurthy and Rekha Banu, wife of Mr. Raja’s close associate Sadiq Basha, who had allegedly committed suicide.

“It is alleged that Mr. Raja and other accused persons have amassed assets, including immovable properties, through various companies including Greenhouse Promoters, Kovay Shelters Promoters and Shivakamam Trading Pvt Ltd,” said a CBI official.

CBI probe revealed that several relatives and associates of Mr. Raja allegedly had “exponential” financial growth, during the period in question, without having requisite wherewithal.

“Searches are being carried out at 20 places in Delhi, Chennai, Perambalur, Tiruchirappalli and Coimbatore. Details of several bank accounts and properties have been collected,” said the CBI official. Mr. Raja is already facing trial in the 2G spectrum allocations case.
