Doctors remove safety pin from infant’s stomach
An 18-month-old infant, Manyatha, has been saved from a life threatening situation caused by ingesting an open safety pin.
Doctors at Satish Gastro and Liver Center in the recently removed the pin from the infant’s stomach using advanced endoscopic procedure.
Explaining the case of Manyatha, who hails from Nuzvid, on Wednesday, gastroenterologist J. Satish said that the child accidentally swallowed the safety pin and X-ray reports showed that the pin had already pierced the large intestine prompting us to use complex endoscopic procedures.
“We took the case as a challenge and closed the pin through endoscope. Later, the pin was removed safely without any harm to the internal organs in about 10 minutes duration. The baby is doing well now,” Dr. Satish said.
Minister for Health Kamineni Srinivas on Wednesday inaugurated Amaravati Pain Clinic on the premises of Indo American Hospital in city.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Srinivas said that proper treatment could put an end to chronic pain in the body. He appreciated anaesthetist and pain physician Ch. Murali Krishna for establishing pain clinic to treat chronic pain with advanced treatments in the capital region.
Dr. Murali Krishna said that the clinic was meant for those suffering from chronic pain.
Noted cardiologist Gopala Krishna Gokhale, anaesthetist K.R.N. Tagore, AP Medical Council chairperson Y. Rajarao, and plastic surgeon and IMA president P.M.C. Naidu were present.
