England wins toss, bats in second test against Sri Lanka
England captain Alastair Cook won the toss and chose to bat in the second test against Sri Lanka on Friday, resisting the temptation to put the tourists back in after their batting failures in the first game. By replacing injured all-rounder Ben Stokes with Chris Woakes, England made just one forced change in their team.
Sri Lanka made two changes in its bowling attack. Milinda Siriwardana and Suranga Lakmal join the team to replace Dushmantha Chameera and Dasun Shanaka. Chameera is out of the series because of a lower back injury. Sri Lanka’s batsmen are under pressure too after being bowled out for 91 and 119 in the heavy loss at Headingley.
England: Alastair Cook (captain), Alex Hales, Nick Compton, Joe Root, James Vince, Jonny Bairstow, Chris Woakes, Moeen Ali, Stuart Broad, Steven Finn, James Anderson.
Sri Lanka: Angelo Mathews (captain), Dimuth Karunaratne, Kaushal Silva, Kusal Mendis, Dinesh Chandimal, Lahiru Thirimanne, Milinda Siriwardana, Rangana Herath, Shaminda Eranga, Nuwan Pradeep, Suranga Lakmal.
