India outplay Spain 4-2 to win 3-match hockey series 2-1
Terrassa (Spain): Riding on forward Ramandeep Singh’s two spectacular goals, that too within a minute, India outplayed Spain 4-2 in the third and last match of the European Tour to win the three-game series 2-1.
The first quarter started with a brisk pace as both the teams competed to dominate in the early stage of the game. After a barrage of attacks in the opening minutes, Spain managed to earn a penalty corner but an alerted PR Sreejesh kept the ball away from the net.
Indian forwards counter-attacked in the next moment and kept on pressing for goals but did not find enough space against a formidable Spanish defence. After an intense tussle from both sides, the first quarter did not see any goal as the teams finished 0-0.
The second quarter commenced with the same intensity, but this time both India and Spain changed their tactics and started playing the long ball game. Chinglensana Singh penetrated the Spanish circle twice, but failed to convert the attempts in goals.
The Indians however earned a penalty corner in the 24th minute, which was perfectly converted into the first goal by drag-flicker Rupinder Pal Singh and helped his team to take an early lead of 1-0.
