Jagga Jasoos actress Bidisha Bezbaruah commits suicide, husband held
26-year-old actress, Bidisha Bezbaruah has allegedly committed suicide and authorities believe that a strained marriage was the catalyst in pushing the young lady to her death.
As per reports in The Hindu, the Assamese actress and singer, who was last seen in the Ranbir Kapoor starrer Jagga Jasoos, allegedly committed suicide by hanging herself in her rented apartment in Sushant Lok Phase-I B-Block. The incident is said to have occurred on Monday night. It now seems that the police have arrested her husband Nisheet Jha for abetment of suicide after her family alleged that Jha was having an extra-marital affair that led to marital discord. They allege that his affair coupled with the disturbance in her family life cause her to take this drastic step.
The couple moved into the apartment where the incident occurred on July 5th and soon after Bidisha’s husband left for Mumbai on official work. Bidisha’s body was found hanging from the ceiling at 8.30pm by her real estate agent and neighbours.
In a statement to The Hindu, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Deepak Saharan said, “Her husband tried to call her, but there was no response. He then called up the broker to go and check on her. The broker along with some neighbours broke open the door when there was no response and found her hanging.”
Upon entering the home, the real estate agent and neighbours found that most of the couple’s belongings were unpacked. Although, the police found no suicide note at the scene Bidisha’s brother, Kaushik alleged that Jha had an extra-marital affair with a colleague which led to a strained relationship between the couple.
In a statement to The Hindu, Kaushik said, “Nisheet and Bidisha had met while working for a company in Delhi and got married in April last year. But Bidisha confided in us this April that her husband had an affair with his colleague. Even Nisheet accepted that he had feelings for a colleague. Bidisha wanted to walk out of the marriage, but we counseled her to give their relationship another chance.”
In an attempt to give their failing relationship a fighting chance, the couple moved to Delhi to start afresh. But matters worsened when Nisheet returned to Mumbai for official work and did not return. Bidisha was not comfortable with Nisheet staying in the city and, as per Kaushik, called her father crying just hours before she took her life.
Amidst all the furor, Nisheet’s father S. K. Jha rubbished the roumours of his son having an extra –marital affair and said the he was torn between his wife and work. In a statement he said, “Little misunderstandings and altercations between couples are common in marriage. All this talk of extra-marital relation is baseless.”
Bidisha was a native of Assam and an alumni of the Indian Institute of Mass Communication. She had featured in a number of TV shows, made small appreances in song sequences and had also been a part of a number of plays. Her recent most appearance was in a song sequence in Jagga Jassos.
In a statement to The Hindu, Bidisha’s friend Sushovhan Talukdar of INLI Foundation, a social and cultural organization said, “Bidisha was culturally very active. She had performed in several plays, and sung songs. We returned from Guwahati after staging a play on July 2. She was an extrovert and full of life.”
