JP Duminy pulls out of IPL 2017
South Africa allrounder JP Duminy has pulled out of the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League. The Delhi Daredevils player has cited personal reasons for his decision. Duminy, who led the team in the 2015 edition, has been a vital cog in the Daredevils set up, having scored 1015 runs for the franchise at an impressive average of 44.13 since the 2014 edition, when he was snapped up.
Duminy expressed his disappointment following his decision but hoped to play for the franchise again in the future. “It has been a very difficult decision for me to make, but it was for purely personal reasons,” Duminy said on Monday (March 20).
“I’m grateful for the support and understanding from the franchise. It has been an absolute privilege to have played for and led a talented mix of players. I certainly hope to play a part for the franchise in the near future.”
Daredevils, who finished sixth last season, will now be looking for a replacement, as confirmed by their chief executive Hemant Dua. “We respect JP’s decision,” Dua said. “We are naturally very disappointed to not have JP in our midst this year, but as a franchise we clearly understand his position. At this stage, we can only confirm that we will look for a replacement at an appropriate time.”
Daredevils open their campaign with an away fixture against last year’s finalists Royal Challengers Bangalore on April 8.
