Klusener to stay on as Kovai head coach for TNPL 2017
Lance Klusener, who coached Lyca Kovai Kings in the first edition of Tamil Nadu Premier League, is set to return for the second edition of the tournament as well.
“I thoroughly enjoyed the experience last year. I thought the quality of the tournament was top class. If we can build on that in the coming seasons, then we will be giving opportunities to many players to make a mark on the big stage,” Klusener told TOI on Friday (June 2).
The 45-year-old, who featured in 49 Tests and 171 ODIs for South Africa, felt Washington Sundar and Vijay Shankar were the big beneficiaries of TNPL’s success.
“TNPL gave platform for domestic talent in Tamil Nadu to flourish. The likes of Washington and Vijay Shankar benefitted from the tour nament. Vijay Shankar may not have played in the competition since he was injured but he was part of the Kovai side and the experience he received stood him in good stead. If we can build on the first season of TNPL, then it will bring to the fore a lot of talent,” said Klusener.
