Leander Paes dropped from Davis Cup squad
Veteran tennis player Leander Paes was on Thursday dropped from the Indian team for the Asia/Oceania Davis Cup tie against Uzbekistan to be held in Bengaluru from April 7 to 9.
India’s non-playing captain Mahesh Bhupathi instead selected Rohan Bopanna to pair with Sriram Balaji in the second round Davis Cup tie in Group 1 of the Asia/Oceania zone to be played at the KSLTA.
“A simple phone call would have sufficed to tell me that I was not playing. A captain can have his style, but criteria for selection should be transparent. If it was form, I just won an event. That said, team is more important than me. Country is even bigger. My full support to the team,” said Paes after the announcement.
