Mark Zuckerberg: India world’s second biggest internet community
Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has said India has the second biggest internet community in the world. The CEO of the social networking giant was addressing a townhall gathering at IIT Delhi.
Taking questions from a gathering of over 900 students and others, Zuckerberg revealed that the social networking giant has over 130 million users in the country and India is its most important market in the world.
Upon being asked about the company’s controversial Internet.org, now rechristened Free Basics, Zuckerberg said that its mission is to connect everyone in the world. Stressing on the importance of India in Facebook’s scheme of things, he said, “You can’t connect the world without connecting India. Connecting people in India is one of the most important things we can do for the world.”
He also said he was very excited to be here as “the energy here is awesome”.
Internet.org has been opposed in various quarters for being anti-net neutrality. Expressing his support to the concept of net neutrality, Zuckerberg said, “Net neutrality is an important topic and it is important to have regulations which prevent companies from hurting people.”
