Narendra Modi inaugurates Mundka-Bahadurgarh Delhi Metro link
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday said the expansion of the Metro network in the country with the help of the Centre and State governments was an example of “co-operative federalism”.
Mr. Modi was speaking at the inauguration of the Mundka-Bahadurgarh section of Delhi Metro’s Green Line. The over 11-km elevated corridor, with seven stations, is the third Metro connectivity between Delhi and Haryana, besides Gurugram and Faridabad.
Mr. Modi said that many countries helped us in setting up the Metro network and now we are helping others for the same, setting an example in international relations. He added that the Metro network in India was being expanded in a dozen cities in India and modern plants were set up to build coaches indigenously.
Addressing the gathering through video conferencing, the Prime Minister said expanding Metro network in India would soon be the world’s fifth-largest network after Beijing and London. He said the Metro network in the country had taken six lakh vehicles off the road, saved time and money and reduced pollution.
Mr. Modi said that Bahadurgarh was known as the “Gateway of Haryana” and would now be the “Gateway of Development” as well with the advent of the Metro. “The rapidly growing industry in the area was waiting for the metro connectivity. There are several colleges and universities in Bahadurgarh and students can also avail of it,” said Mr. Modi.
He said that his government had come out with a new policy for the Metro last year addressing the issues of use of technology and standards. Now Metro expansion would be carried out as per set standards and a clean, safe and smart transport mode made available to the masses.
Haryana CM Manohar Lal Khattar and Union Minister of State for Urban Development Hardeep Puri were also present.
