Nasscom congratulates new US President Donald Trump

Indian software and services industry’s apex body has congratulated the new US President Donad Trump on his victory. “We congratulate President-elect Trump on his historic victory on winning the US Presidential Elections. We are optimistic that President-elect Trump’s administration will focus on making the strategic relationship with India a high priority including providing a boost to US India bilateral trade and investment,” said the software body in a statement.

“He had recently said that, if he is elected, the US and India would be ‘best friends’, adding that ‘There won’t be any relationship more important to us.’ Many of his observations during the campaign concerning high-skilled immigration and outsourcing were based on fabrications put out by critics of the sector. NASSCOM and leaders of the Indian IT industry look forward to working with him and his administration and leaders of the House and Senate to highlight our sector’s contributions to the U.S. economy and help ensure that they understand these facts as well as the depth of our investments. Our sector plays a key role in helping US businesses innovate and grow and make corporate America more competitive,” adds the statement.

Earlier today, Republican party candidate Donald Trump beat Democrat Hillary Clinton to become the 45th President of the United States. Crucial for Trump were wins in the ‘swing states’ Ohio, North Carolina and Florida. ‘Swing states’ are states that don’t consistently vote for any of the two major parties.

Unlike his rival Clinton, who has served as a US Senator and Secretary of State, Trump has never before held public office. The 70-year-old Republican was, until the campaign began, famous for his abrasive hosting of The Apprentice, a reality television series. He’s chairman and president of the Trump Organization, a conglomerate of businesses.

Trump will be sworn in on January 20, 2017.
