NIA officer shot dead in Uttar Pradesh
An officer posted with the National Investigation Agency (NIA) was chased and shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Bijnore district of Western Uttar Pradesh. The officer’s wife was also shot at and she is admitted in a critical condition at a hospital in Noida.
The officer was posted as Deputy Superintendent of Police in NIA. He was on deputation from the Border Security Force (BSF).
The NIA clarified that officer was not part of the probe regarding the Pathankot airbase terror attack.
The attackers who were on a motorcycle chased and shot dead Tanzil and his wife, when they were returning from a wedding in Sahaspur district of Bijnore.
“Unknown motor cycle riders followed the Wagon R car of Tanzil of NIA, while he was coming back from Bijnor with family from a wedding. The shot him and his wife from close range. Tanzil succumbed to his injuries, wife was rushed to a hospital in Moradabad in a critical condition,” said an NIA official. She was later on shifted to a hospital in Noida.
NIA officer Tanzil Ahmed had 21 gunshot wounds on his body. Officials said at least 10 bullets were still lodged in his body at the time of autopsy. Further investigations into the case were on.
