Ramdin lashes out at WICB selection panel chairman
Denesh Ramdin, the West Indies wicketkeeper-batsman, on Wednesday (July 6) lashed out at Courtney Browne, chairman of national selection panel, while revealing that he won’t be a part of the upcoming four-match Test series against India.
Though the West Indies Cricket Board (WICB) is yet to name the squad for the Test series, they have announced a 12-member team to play Indians in a two-day warm-up match in St Kitts and Nevis starting July 9. The team features Test players like Jermaine Blackwood, Rajendra Chandrika, Shane Dowrich, Shai Hope and Jomel Warrican.
While taking the attack to Browne, a former wicketkeeper-batsman, Ramdin drew a parallel with his performance and also brought to notice his show with the bat in the last Test series against Australia.
Ramdin averaged only 28.14 with the bat in the recently-concluded One-Day International tri-series involving Australia and South Africa. However, it was a series in which low-scoring totals were a norm.
During West Indies’ last Test series, away tour of Australia, Ramdin was the third-highest run-getter for his side, behind Darren Bravo and Kraigg Brathwaite.
Browne, who was part of the selection committee for the last six years, had replaced Clive Lloyd as the chairman last month. He has been appointed for a two-year term and is working with Lloyd in a ‘handover’ period before taking over the role completely in October 2016.
