Sarah Elliott retires from all forms of cricket

Sarah Elliott has announced her retirement from all forms of cricket, Cricket Australia confirmed on Wednesday (February 1). The 35-year-old played three Tests, 22 One-Day Internationals and 14 Twenty20 Internationals for Australia since making her debut in 2005.

Elliott last represented Australia in 2014 when she was part for the Women’s Ashes only Test against England, scoring 13 and 29 in her two outings. She was part of the ICC Women’s World Twenty20 winning squad in 2010 and the Ashes winning squad in 2011. She scored 238 runs in her three Tests at an impressive average of 47.60 in addition to 416 runs from 22 ODI.

Elliott also led Melbourne Renegaes in the first edition of the Women’s Big Bash League.

James Sutherland, the Cricket Australia CEO, thanked Elliott for her services to the sport. “We congratulate Sarah Elliott on a wonderful international and domestic career and the outstanding contribution she has made to cricket both on and off the field,” he said. “Sarah proved she could match it with the best players in the world and she should be proud of the way she carried herself throughout her career and the legacy she leaves behind.

“We would like to thank Sarah for her service to cricket as both a player and leader, and for her commitment to cricket whilst also raising two beautiful boys.”
