Small plane crash-lands on Delhi outskirts

A small chartered aircraft crash-landed on a field in Najafgarh, located on the outskirts of the southwestern part of Delhi, on Tuesday afternoon.

All seven passengers, including the pilot, were reported to be safe, said the police. However, one sustained minor injuries and was rushed to Rao Tula Ram Hospital.

Additional Director of Delhi Fire Services. Atul Garg said a call was received around 2.45 p.m. Some doctors were aboard.

“It landed at Khaira village in Najafgarh, near jafarpurlalan,” he said.

The 4,581 kg Beech King Air C-90A aircraft (Registration number VT-EQO) is 27 years old and could seat seven people, including one crew member.

“The aircraft was arriving from Patna, and while approaching the Indira Gandhi International Airport, it developed some technical snag and the pilot requested the Delhi Air Traffic Control for an emergency landing,” said an airport official, who didn’t want to be named.

“Before the aircraft could land at the airport, it crash-landed in Najafgarh. It appears that it had developed some snag in its landing gear and also suffered engine failure before it could land safely at the airport,” he said.
