Venkaiah Naidu files nomination for Vice President election
Former Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu, on Tuesday filed nomination papers to contest in Vice President election. His name was proposed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Finance and Defence Minister Arun Jaitley, and External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj.
Mr. Naidu was accompanied by BJP president Amit Shah, senior leader Murli Manohar Joshi and other party legislators at the time of nomination.
Speaking to the reporters after filing the nomination, Mr. Naidu thanked Mr. Modi and Mr. Shah for nominating him.
“I will uphold the dignity of the Office of Vice President of India, if I am elected,” Mr. Naidu said.
The BJP’s parliamentary board on Monday picked Mr. Naidu as the party’s nominee for the post of Vice-President.
