Vijayakant loses Leader of Opposition status in TN Assembly
Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam leader Vijayakant has lost the status of the Leader of the Opposition in the Tamil Nadu Assembly due to the resignation of eight party dissidents from the House, Speaker P. Dhanapal announced on Sunday.
Earlier in the day, 10 dissident MLAs in the Assembly, including eight from the DMDK, tendered their resignation to Mr. Dhanapal. Mr. Dhanapal said the resignations of the 10 MLAs have been accepted.
The DMDK MLAs who tendered their resignation are — C. Arunpandian, M. Arun Subramanian, K. Pandiarajan, K. Tamil Azhagan, S. Michael Rayappan, R. Sundarrajan, T. Sureshkumar and R. Santhi. A. Ramasamy (Puthiya Tamizhagam) and M. Kalaiarasu (PMK) also tendered their resignation.
