Will Pucovski replaced by Sam Heazlett for SL warm-up

Will Pucovski has been ruled out of the clash between the Prime Ministers XI and Sri Lanka on February 15 in Canberra due to a concussion, Cricket Australia confirmed on Friday (February 10). The 19-year-old Victorian batsman will be replaced by Sam Heazlett.

Pucovski sustained the injury on his Sheffield Shield debut for the Victoria Bushrangers last week, which he picked up while fielding, ruling him out of the match. He had made his first-class debut earlier in the year against New South Wales at 18.

“He will continue to be monitored by Cricket Victoria medical staff before he is cleared to return to training,” a CA release stated.

Heazlett, who had joined the Brisbane Heat on a rookie contract last season, was on a full contract this time. He also made his One-Day International debut for Australia in the recently-concluded Chappell-Hadlee series against New Zealand in the first one-dayer where he scored 4.

“Sam is a really exciting young batsman and the Prime Ministers XI match will offer him another chance to face an international bowling attack,” Greg Chappell, the National Talent Manager and interim national selector, said.

“His talent has already been recognised by the National Selection Panel, and we look forward to him grasping this opportunity against Sri Lanka with both hands.”
