Woman allegedly raped in a car in Delhi’s Moti Bagh
In an incident that once again brings to the forefront women’s safety in the Capital even four years after Delhi gang rape case, a 20-year-old woman was allegedly raped by a driver in South Delhi’s Moti Bagh late Wednesday night.
The driver had offered lift to the victim while she was waiting for a bus near AIIMS. The accused has been arrested and the SX4 car, where the woman was allegedly raped, has been seized.
A resident of Noida, the woman was in Delhi on Wednesday to look for a job, she told police in her statement. It was around 10 p.m. when she decided to return home.
As she waited for a bus near AIIMS, the accused driver approached her and offered to give her a lift. The unsuspecting woman got into the vehicle, only to be allegedly molested on the way.
When she resisted the bid, the driver stopped the vehicle somewhere in Moti Bagh and went on to rape the woman, she told police. Having committed the alleged crime, the driver abandoned the car there and fled.
The woman then approached a PCR vehicle nearby and narrated her ordeal after which the vehicle was seized and her statement recorded at the South Campus police station.
As soon as she was sent for a medical examination, the south district police formed several teams to nab the accused. He was arrested from a friend’s home on Thursday morning.
Meanwhile, the car was found to be bearing a sticker of the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). Police, however, said that their probe so far has indicated it is a privately registered car.
However, the probe so far has also suggested that the car could be belong to an officer of the armed forces and that the accused worked as a driver for him. The police are investigatin the case further.
